Blinkie Tutorial
lol I did this ages ago but i thought it may be useful to some of you!

So u wanna make blinkies huh? well they are not really that difficult and I have made them even easier by making the boxes with the letters in for you.

This tutorial is designed for people with paint shop pro 7.04 and animation shop 3.04.  If you do not yet have this then click here to download it (both come together...beware the file size is large and will take a long time to download!)

1) Putting the boxes together

Ok you have to open up paint shop pro, go onto file new.  Set up the page to be any size as long as its not to small. Remember to set the background to transparent as shown below.

Right now you need to start adding the blinkies.  Just simply copy and paste the boxes below, this is one whole image so u will need to cut out the boxes you want.  It is actually better to save this image then open it in animation shop and then paste it into paint shop pro other wise you will find that it has a black background!

Ok so you string the boxes together to spell what u want.

2) adding a graphic

So u want a little pixel graphic by ur blinky? well just find one u like, then again open it in animation shop and go onto animation properties and make sure that the background is set on transparent.  If it isn't already transparent then click on the fill tool and check the box that says 'to canvas colour' then fill all the background transparent.  Then paste the image into paint shop pro (CTRL+E not CTRL+V)  Move the image where you would like it on ur blinky.

3) Time to animate things!

Right now its time to animate your blinkie! select all of the blinkie (it does not matter if you select too much because the background is transpaent) Now go onto edit and then copy.  Now paste the blinkie into animation shop.

Now what you need to do is paste this image as lots of other frames.  So that it looks like this

Now all you have to do is fill the letter or the background, or both in a different colour, I am going to just do the background.  So in each frame fill a different box.

Now thats it believe it or not! if u think the animation is too fast (preview it bly clicking on >View>animation)  then select all of the frames, right click on it and go onto frame properties then change it to the time you want.

4) Saving the blinkie!

Now to save the blinkie go onto >file>save as.  Now when you type in the file name and click save a box will come up

now to make sure that your animation does not go all strange go onto customise and then click on the tab saying optimisations now make sure all of the boxes are unticked.  Then click on the tab saying Colours Now you want this to be about 15 colours.  Also at the bottom where it says reduce colours by change it to nearest colour. Now just click ok then next.  Keep clicking next if the preview seems ok and there you go! your animation is complete!

(this is much larger that the size that your blinky will be if you use my boxes)
