Layers Paint Shop Pro Tutorial
Layers are very important when dealing with graphics, they help keep things nice and neat and you can do some pretty cool blending effects.  So this tutorial is very basic it is meant for beginners!

what are layers? Well have you ever made an image and done something wrong then when you go to select something its hard to because its actually built into a picture and just creates a huge mess? well layers stop this because if you have an image in the background then do a new layer it is like having two different images.  You can select things on each layer without changing things on the other!

Here is an example when trying to select writing on an image without layers and with! The picture starts off looking the same

But when we try deleting the text on the one without layers this happens

What a mess hey? but with layers it turns out perfect!

So how do we use layers? Simply open up a new image then click on layers > new raster layer then every time you make a new object or something you want on a new layer you simply add another layer! Its also good to name your layers so you can find them again, to activate a different layer simply click on the layer tab and at the bottom click on the layer you want!

What is the blend mode of a layer? You can do some cool effects with this! experimenting I find is the best way! These effects will not work on the bottom layer only on the top layers.  Click on layers > properties and simply select a blend mode and click ok! also playing about with the opacity can do good effects! The lower the opacity the more transparent (see-through) the image!

Go ahead and have a try!
